Walk n Wheel Week
Dust off your 'wheels' and get ready for the week! However, remember you don't have to have wheels, you can walk to school/or some of the way if possible. This week is about finding alternative ways of getting to school (if possible!). It might be that mum or dad drop you (and your friends) off and you walk the rest of the way to school.
As we have been chosen as a 'focus school' for the week a reminder that we are meeting as a school at Jubilee Park (on Maori Road) on Wednesday drop-off from 8:15-8:30am then we are walking/wheeling with the Mayor, police, Sport Otago and MORE FM to school where we will then have an assembly. At school there will be a bike/scooter/skateboard circuit set up during the day. Just remember your safety gear! Parents are very welcome to walk with us from Jubilee Park.

The first week
A great start to the year......and with a long weekend to enjoy too!
Great to see everyone back in room 8.
A big thanks to the PTA for the funds that have purchased apple televisions that have been installed in each classroom. We have regularly made use of them during the first week.
We have been looking at goal setting and have used some endurance athletes as inspiration to follow our goals and aspirations.
Diana Nyad was the first swimmer to swim from Cuba to the USA without the protection of a shark cage. She first attempted this amazing challenge in 1978 aged 28 , she failed a total of 4 times before being successful in 2013 aged 63!

To achieve our individual goals, they won't be as exhausting as swimming for 53 hours but they will be things we want to aspire to achieve!

Beach Education
A great theory based and then pool-based session today with the lifeguards. We learnt about keeping safe at the beach, how to identify rips and then had a practical session at the pool.
The lifeguards who patrol our beaches in the summer do a splendid job.......often saving many 100s of people from the surf. The important thing to remember is to swim between the flags!
